In Lockstep with You

Can you think back to one of the first times you waltzed with a childhood crush? Do you remember how you couldn't stop gazing into their eyes? The setting around you is blurring, the music is playing, and you are living in a dream. You are the captive audience of one, the one you've chosen to dance with.

Did you know that the dance you began even before your first crush continues to this day? In fact, this dance never stops, and some never master a good waltz. Life is one giant dancefloor with partners lined up waiting to catch your gaze. The partners come in all forms and sizes, people, places, things, dreams, pain, trials, and so on. But there is one particular partner who wishes to stay in lockstep with you. This partner promises something really special if you take his hand and follow his lead. He promises a gift unlike any other. Yet, so few decide to dance, or maybe they do for a song or two and then no more. They have found other partners, and they offer them empty promises and turn them loose shortly thereafter. If you watch the dance floor, you will see many have exchanged partners hundreds of thousands of times. Matter of fact, this exchange has happened so much, they are dizzy, constantly adverting their gaze to determine who they will dance with next.

In the crowd, one stands out among the rest and his hand is always extended to you. He is patiently waiting, a hopeless romantic, with the power to bestow peace upon the one who gazes into his eyes. He never turns for another partner, He cannot. His eyes are fixed on you, and they will always be fixed on you. He has watched time after time His beloved dance with another, and another, and another. He understands the pain they experience each time they fall after becoming dizzy and depleted of energy.

As you dance with other lovers, hoping for satisfaction and peace, you can hear His whisper calling you to His embrace. Suddenly, a new melody begins to sound in your ears unlike any you've heard before and peace overwhelms you like a river from within. And when you begin to lose your peace, remember it is only because you began to shift your eyes to another partner.

If you keep your eyes on this partner, you'll find the others fade away, the background noise is subtle and easy to ignore, and slowly over time, you will learn how to be in lockstep with the dearest partner that is and will ever be. The definition of lockstep according to Cambridge Dictionary is, "To be in complete agreement with someone." As your loving dance partner whispers and gazes into your eyes, you will begin to believe what He says over you. His words are so tender and full of truth and power, they have the power to protect your heart and to bring new life to what may be dead around you.

Can you hear His whisper calling you to dance? Do you see His hand extended to you? Do not be afraid to let go of another partner's hand. It's okay if you don't know the dance. He will lead and you can fall into His arms as the melody of peace quiets every fear.

Galatians 5:25 (ESV)

If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.

Isaiah 41:10 (ESV)

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Isaiah 26:3 (ESV)

You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.
